Gas boilers are connected to your main gas line and your waterline. They receive a constant supply of natural gas to keep the water hot. When the water temperature drops, the thermostat triggers the gas supply valve to release gas into the combustion chamber. The ignition or pilot ignites the gas. The boiler’s heat exchanger sends hot jets of gas to the water as it flows over the heat exchanger.
